Everything I read in February & March!
I have been slacking in the reading department after crushing 6 books in January! However, I was able to catch up over Spring break and have read 5 books the past two months. While the number may not be high, these books pack a punch! Here is what I read…
The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel
This book was full on intrigue…a disturbing incident at a hotel, a ponzi scheme, and twisted family dynamics. This book has an interesting story weaving all of these events together!
Grown Ups by Emma Jane Unsworth
This story rang a little too true! Grown Ups follows a woman in her 30s navigating dating, social media, work, and family relationships. Jenny is a little neurotic, but she is also a likable character and you are rooting for her to find her way!
Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri
This was just the cutest book! This story was narrated by Daniel in his childhood, who just emigrated to Oklahoma from Iran with his family. The book is full of rich stories of acclimating to his new country, memories of his past, and poignant anecdotes from a child’s perspective of growing up! If you listen to it on Audible, the author reads his book with such passion and excitement.
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
My Dark Vanessa is a modern-day Lolita story. A young girl at her boarding school in Maine falls in love with her English teacher. Their lives are intertwined for years to come, as she reconciles her childhood experience through an adult’s perspective and lens. While this story feels tragic at times, it is really a story of redemption. I HIGHLY recommend!
Push by Ashley Audrain
This book is a MUST read!!! I just devoured this book on audible. It tells the story a woman navigating motherhood, while exploring her own childhood and how her mom and grandmother shaped her notion of being a mother. This story is rich, detailed, and powerful. The last sentence of the book just left me SHOOK! Can you tell how much I loved it?
