Everything I Read in January 2023

Wow, January felt like the length of an entire year! It wasn’t a bad month…just VERY long! Since I live around a school year, January just feels like a necessary evil to get through so I can get to Spring Break. We are now 7 weeks and counting until I get to sun and warmth in LA. I went there last year for Spring Break, and it was exactly what I needed. I can’t wait to get back!

Ok, so let’s talk books! I read A LOT last year, and loved so much of it. However, I felt like upping my goal each year was going to get unmanageable (and/or annoy my dad when I steal his audible credits )! 2023 is all about reading books of substance and quality rather than quantity. As a result, I slowed down my pace, so I could truly savor my reading. As a result, I read 3 great books this month!

When We Believed in Mermaids- Barbara O’Neal

15 years ago, Kit thought she lost her sister in a horrific accident. As she watches the news one day, she sees a scene from segment in New Zealand and swears her sister was on film, proving she is still alive. Kit makes the journey across the world in search of her sister. Not only does she her long lost sister, she finds answers to her past and can begin her own path of healing. This was such a heartwarming read to kick off 2023!

Beartown- Fredrick Backman

What football is to Texas is what hockey is to Sweden! Beartown is a small community whose identity is centered around their hockey teams. These boys and young men are idolized for their athletic talent and the attention they bring to their town. When a 15 year old girl is raped by the town’s star player, everyone must question what is right and wrong, and the entire town is impacted by the rippling effect of a tragic situation! This is a must read!

A Quiet Life- Ethan Joella

Told from the perspectives of 3 very different individuals, Chuck, Ella, and Kirsten have all experienced a recent tragedy that has colored their lives. While their grief is different, their stories all become intertwined as they search for meaning in the midst of everything. A Quiet Life is moving and leaves you hopeful. It is the one book that I can’t stop thinking about from this month!

While I won’t have as many books to report back on each month, I hope you also appreciate the quality of this amazing books! I llok forward to checking back in at the end of February!

xoxo,

L
