Everything I Read in May 2023

And just like that, June and Summer Break are here! Well, I wish it happened that fast. This school year was rough. Most of the time, I felt like a sick octopus- asked to do too many jobs while fighting off every illness the children could bring. Despite it being a HARD school year, I feel like Spring gave me the gift of being healthy and finally being able to bring my head above water, allowing me to find joy again in the job that I LOVE! It feels so nice to end the year on a positive note, and roll into my favorite time of year…Summer Break!

Summer is going to be AMAZING! So far, I have four trips planned: NYC, Nantucket, Santa Barbara and LA. Besides these travels, I can’t wait to sleep in, drink coffee from home, spend time with friends and family, workout in the middle of the day, and read. I read 4 books in May, but I hope to devour more books to share with you this Summer! As always, let’s dive in to the reads from last month…

Go As a River- Shelley Read

This book is for fans of Where the Crawdads Sing. Set in Colorado during the 1940s, Victoria is practically an orphan, as she is left to run her families peach orchard. Tragedy and heartache come at every turn, as she struggles to find her way. At times it felt a little slow, but the story is rich and complex!

The Collected Regrets of Clover- Mikki Brammer

Gosh, I just adored this book! Clover has the unique job of being a death doula, providing dignity and companionship for people in their remaining days. While she provides so much to the final days of her clients, she neglects to take care of herself. This leads a friend to ask her, What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life? When Clover starts to reach out and connect with those around her, she finds that there is so much to live for. This book is a must read in my humble opinion!

No One Needs to Know- Lindsay Cameron

Big Little Lies meets Gossip Girl in this fun thriller! It has a little of everything- UES private school drama, women who meddle in their children’s lives, an affair, and murder. No One Needs to Know would make a fun beach read!

The Senator’s Wife- Liv Constantine

I love reading books based in DC, and when you add in suspense, it is a no brainer for me to devour! If you enjoy suspense and thrillers, Liv Constantine is an author you need to follow. The Senator’s Wife is her newest release, which came out in late May. Naturally, I ordered the day it came out and polished it off in just a few days. Sloane Chase was married to her best friend and a prominent Senator until he died unexpectedly. A few years later, she remarried her husband’s best friend and fellow senator, as she tries to heal from her grief. Months into her new marriage, when she should be in newlywed bliss, she starts to experience mysterious illnesses and symptoms as he isolates her from her friends and family. I did not predict the ending, and just found this to be the kind of suspense read that I love!

These were four great books, but I am even more excited to report back with all of my Summer reads! I hope to be polishing off books from the beach, my patio, and all of my travels. Thank you, as always, for following along and being a part of the Closet Hook community! YOU make this a fun platform to share!

xoxo,

Lauren
