Everything I Read in September & October
Well hello there! I know it has been a minute from my last post. I always have the best intentions to produce more content for the blog, but life seems to get in the way. Between work, spending time with family and friends, hitting the gym, it always feels like there isn’t much time for anything else. Thank God for Audible for making listening to books possible, even when I am at the height of a chaotic schedule. As a result, I have been listening to A LOT of great books this past few months. Here is what I have devoured:
It Ends With Us- Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover is becoming one of my go-to authors due to her well-developed characters. It Ends With Us delves into the complexities of romantic relationships and creates characters who you become invested in. Spoiler: if physical abuse is a trigger for you, this is not your book. However, this book approaches the issue sensitively and with characters who are striving to break that cycle. This for me was 10/10.
Little Secrets- Jennifer Hillier
Wow- this book was one that I could not stop listening to! Filled with twists and turns, I was hooked on the journey as Maren looks for her son, who was abducted while they were Christmas shopping in a busy Seattle market. This is another must read in my book!
Looking For Alaska- John Green
I don’t typically read YA books, but this book came heavily recommended by a friend! I am so glad I listened. This book follows a group of wayward teens, who are boarding together at a school in Alabama. When one member of their close circle disappears, they struggle to find closure and seek their own answers. SO good!
Good Company-Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
I have been devouring character driven books lately! This book explores two marriages between close friends and how their families have been intertwined since young adulthood. Lies, secrets, and jealousy all come to light and it sheds light on one must carry forward despite the hurt. I may be a broken record, but this is another high recommended read!
Good Neighbors- Sarah Langan
While this book was slow at times, it really makes you think about who your neighbors are! I have always loved social psychology, and particularly why groups of people act the way they do. This book will have you asking, how can people blindly follow others, even when they are wrong?
Beautiful World, Where Are You?- Sally Rooney
Sally Rooney is called the authors for millennials. While I am not sure this is accurate, she does writes about millennial characters and uses a very stream of conscious writing style that just kind of flows with the characters thoughts. I definitely didn’t love this book, but I was invested to see how the book ended.
A Slow Fire Burning- Paula Hawkins
Not to end on a bad note, but this book was slow and did not excite me! Maybe it was because I was anticipating Paula Hawkins next book? However, this suspense book just did not grab my attention and seemed to drag on. To be honest, this is was a pass for me!
I hope you find something here that will grab your attention! Let me know what you are reading in the comments section. I am always looking for my next book rec!
