Lauren’s Peloton Review
Y’all know I live for a good fitness class, and I was a Soul Cycle junkie prior to the pandemic! When the pandemic hit and all of my fitness outlets were stripped away, I spent a good 6 months walking and running daily to get my sweat on. Around 6 months in, I hit a wall where the idea of running and walking the same paths were causing me dread (rather the relief it used to bring). Basically, I was bored, but sadly many gyms were still not open. Therefore, I took the plunge and purchased a peloton. I had always been in love with spin classes, and it was a workout that I never became tired of. When I polled IG last week, I was so excited to hear that y’all wanted to know my thoughts on peloton after having it for almost a year! Here goes…
What features do I love about the peloton bike?
It is CONVENIENT AF! I love that the bike is right in my bedroom and ready for use at any time that works for my crazy schedule. Sometimes I get up and use it before work if I have plans in the evening. However, I mostly use it in the afternoon as soon as I get home from work. I can change quick, jump on the bike, get a killer workout in, and then shower before dinner in the time that it would take for me to commute back and forth to a workout class. It really just gives you zero excuses to skip a workout!
I love the VARIETY the bike gives! The bike has traditional spin classes of course, but you can also take weight classes, bootcamp classes, and get core/ab work. In addition to the class type, you can also choose the duration of the class (I typically stick with the 45 min length) and you can select your instructor. It is so motivating when you can pick and choose what works best for you, even if that means a quick 15 min ride that day! Also through your monthly membership (roughly $40/month), you get access to the peloton app and can. use it when traveling!
It is a BADASS workout! I am always shocked by how hard a workout it is! I keep a sweat towel on the bike, because you will work up a sweat, especially during the longer classes. If I am going to spend my time on the bike, I want to make sure I am getting a great workout and this will deliver!
Is the bike worth the cost?
IMO- yes!! Yes, the bike has an upfront fee and a $40 monthly subscription fee. However, for a workout junkie like me, the bike gets its use. I typically ride my peloton 3x week. At $32 (the price is more in some cities) a class for Soul Cycle, I would be spending nearly $400 month to spin that much with in person classes. In addition, with an at home bike, you don’t have to pay for parking or to commute to and from classes. Hey, your time is valuable and worth something. It truly does pay for itself after a while! I do spend money and attend classes at other gyms, but you could solely use the peloton and app for all of your workout needs- running, spin, and weight classes. This would surely make it the most cost effective option! (Insider tip- you can also pay for the peloton app and just use that for at home and workouts on the go.)
Do you miss the in person vibe and community feel of attending classes?
Most people will agree that in person classes are so motivating, because you are able to compete against other people and you build a community with the instructors and other members! Don’t worry- that is all a part of the peloton program too! You can track and follow your friends on the app who are fellow peloton members (similar to an Apple Watch). In addition, all live and prerecorded classes have a leader board that allows you to see how your performance stacks up. f you aren’t into the competitive aspect, you can hide that from your screen with the click of a button!
Who are your favorite instructors?
Alex Toussaint- IMO , he’s the hardest Peloton instructor. Plus, he serves up all the best rap and hip hop music for his rides!
Cody Rigsby- He always makes me laugh and his classes feel like a party. His appreciation for pop music (especially Britney Spears) allows me to sing along while I am riding!
Ben Alldis- Ben gives such great encouragement and is super motivating! Plus, his British accent is a nice bonus. ;)
Olivia Amato- Her upbeat energy is so motivating for you to work as hard as possible!
What else do you need to purchase besides the bike?
I purchased an extra package that included the shoes and weights. In addition, I bought a mat for the bike on amazon. This way the bike doesn’t ruin your floor and will support the weight of the bike. Besides that, I always keep a sweat towel and water bottle on the bike.
Was set up/delivery easy?
ABSOLUTELY! The peloton team will schedule a day and time for delivery. When they arrive, they take care of everything from bike set to ensure you have the bike properly adjusted for your height. It was truly a simple process!
I hope this answers some of your burning peloton questions! Until 1/9 use code ZNVWD8 for up to $550 off a peloton bike!
xoxo,
Lauren
